Traffic police patrol the small screen

WARRINGTON traffic police appeared on television this week in a new BBC1 documentary.

Traffic Cops was shown on Monday and focused on the work of Cheshire's road policing officers.

The makers of the programme said that its aim was to highlight issues relating to road safety in a bid to reduce the number of road deaths and serious injuries.

Assistant Chief Constable David Griffin said: "The role of road policing officers has, in recent years, become more diverse as the nature of policing has changed."

Monday's episode was called The Educators and it looked at what police are doing to educate people about the dangers on roads.

It looked at Warrington in the evening, when the town centre was coming to life, and it examined the dangers of drink driving.

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Warrington, officers had to deal with the aftermath of an abandoned smashed car, driven by a suspected drink driver.
