Residents oppose Phone mast at Alsager Town's ground

ALSAGER residents are opposing a new bid to install a 65-feet high mobile phone mast on their doorsteps.

People living in Heath View, Alsager, are joining forces to fight plans by 02 to put up the mast at Alsager Town football club's ground.

An application by the mobile phone company was refused by borough councillors in November because it would be over prominent and obtrusive in open countryside.

The latest application by 02 is for a 20-metre high mast, three antennas and two dishes.

Michael Woolf was one of 14 people from the seven homes in Heath View who opposed the original application.

Mr Woolf, aged 69, moved to Heath Avenue five years ago, and contacted the Congleton Guardian to highlight the latest campaign by residents to stop 02 putting up a mast.

"One of the reasons I moved here was the view, which is across to trees and Rode Heath," said Mr Woolf.

"It is 10 yards from my back window to the boundary of the football ground, and the mast will ruin our view.

"It will be an eyesore, and the residents in Heath View are also concerned about the potential radiation problems from these masts."

The residents are also concerned about the impact on their privacy of the floodlights at the football ground.

Mr Woolf said the angle of the lights needed to be changed so they did not shine into Heath View homes.

The borough council is in discussion with the club about the floodlighting concerns.
