Public set police after nuisance youths - again

ALSAGER police officers will be targeting nuisance youths once again in response to continuing public concern.

The initiative follows the results of the second community action meeting staged in Alsager by the police.

Members of the public are invited to put forward their views on what should be the immediate policing priorities for the town.

Nuisance youths came out top at the first meeting, and also at the second on Monday.

As a result the issue will be the top priority for PC Mark Guildford and his fellow officers over the coming six weeks.

PC Guildford said police patrols had reduced the problem of large numbers of young people congregating in the town centre.

In addition the amount of alcohol confiscated from underage youths has reduced, although members of the public told the meeting the problems had moved to other parts of Alsager.

People were asked to voted on their top policing priority, and nuisance youths came out top, ahead of more visible policing.

"We will continue the work we have been doing for the last six weeks with partner agencies and the support of parents," said PC Guildford.

A further three community volunteers came forward at the meeting, and will be going out on patrol with the CAT team over the coming weeks to see the problems first hand.

PC Guildford was delighted with the attendance at the meeting at the civic centre, which was 50 per cent up on the first meeting, and hoped the trend would continue.
