Our bin men aren't what they used to be

HATS OFF to P Castle regarding the refuse collection.

I once put a mere handful of twigs in my bin, on collecting it I was surprised I had a triangle sticker on it, words to the effect, you have been registered for putting garden refuse in.

It's coming to something when we are being dictated to from refuse collectors, and them having the time to look in our bins.

Surely no matter what we put in our bins it's household rubbish.

I remember when we had real bin men, when bins were metal.

They would collect our bins from the back of our houses, sometimes it took two men to lift it in the back of the lorry, it wasn't the easy hydraulics of today, and then used to take it back again, a wonderful service.

Pyms Lane has skips for rubble, wood, cardboard, green waste, household waste, a bin for this, a bin for that. You can't put it there neither there, take it to that one.

You can spend a good part of your day just getting rid of your rubbish after sometimes queuing for what seems hours.

Could it not be sorted at the depot by the staff, instead of them just watching?

The staff there are far from helpful, they will watch you struggle.

The council will defend them, saying they're not insured to help. I reply, are they insured to jump in and out of the skips to retrieve items, when there are people throwing things in the skips.

On the subject of Pyms Lane, I would like to know how much has it cost to improve the tip area?

Was it necessary to go to that extreme to block pave and plant hundreds of trees surrounding it?

It could be used as a recreational area too, nicer than many parts of Crewe. Come on lets have figs.

The design. How ridiculous to have to drive up to the skips, not reverse, which would make it far easier, quicker, not as many staff needed and reduce the queuing on Pyms Lane.

I could go on about planning in Crewe regarding B&Qs position. I say to the Council, think ahead, get out there, ask the people.

After all it's our town, we contribute.
