Robbers threatened store manager with golf clubs

CREWE detectives are investigating a robbery at a golf store at Queen's park last week.

The two robbers entered the American Discount Golf Store at the Crewe course at 6.15 on Thursday evening and threatened the manager with golf clubs.

The men escaped with £5,000 worth of golfing equipment and officers are now looking for staff at other courses to help them with enquiries.

Police officers believe the men, who had Merseyside accents, may have been into the store previously to size it up and may have tried 'dry runs' at other golf courses.

They would like to know about any other incidents in the past few weeks where customers have been to golf stores and made lengthy enquiries about expensive golfing equipment.

DC Zoe Barber said: "The men left the scene in a light blue Ford Escort, registration number K550 AFC.

"They visited the course on the Monday before the robbery and actually visited another course on the Monday, so we believe they were going around checking which stores have the most expensive equipment, what time they close and so on.

"We think they are targeting Crewe and the surrounding area and are aware that they visited another course this week, so we are asking people to look out for them.

"Although the manager was shocked and shaken no one was injured on this occasion. We really don't know whether they would become violent, but we would ask people not to approach them and to contact police."

The men are described as wearing casual tracksuits, one in his mid 20s, about 5ft 8ins and medium build, the other man slighter older, about 5ft 9ins with short red hair.
