Council Tax rise

WINSFORD Town Council has revealed its draft budget for 2005/6 with charities and organisations set to benefit.

Clr Tony Hooton presented the draft proposal at Monday's town council meeting and announced that there would be an increase of 50p per week in Council Tax to pay for the extra funding.

He said: "For a band D property it would work out at £28 per year but the reality is that most people in Winsford would pay less than that.

"There are a number of grants applications from various organisations.

"There will be £1,000 for schools, £500 for MIND, £1,000 for the Connexions project at Woodford Lodge High School. The budget will be £292,000 which is £19,000 more than last year."

Councillors will discuss the budget further at the February meeting.
