Patch up job will not solve problem

RESIDENTS in Wharton are calling for a permanent solution to a long running problem of poorly maintained road surfaces.

Wharton Residents' Association was set up 18 months ago in response to complaints over the poor road surfaces but the situation has not got any better and members have now called on Cheshire county councillor Tony Hooton for help.

Clr Hooton, who is also a town and borough councillor, met with residents' association chairman Colin Murray to inspect Lodge Drive, which many believe to be the area most in need of improving.

He said: "The road is in a poor state of repair and really people want something doing about it.

"I have discussed this with Colin Murray and now I will talk to our engineers and see what can be done."

Colin is also hopeful the situation will finally be resolved.

He said: "They will come out and fill in the potholes but they just disintegrate almost straight away.

"The whole estate needs resurfacing and not just patching up here and there like they have been doing.

"Clr Hooton comes to our meetings and hopefully he will now be able to give us some help with this because apart from anything else the roads just aren't safe as they are.

"Residents in Wharton feel as though they are neglected by the council and I am pleased Tony Hooton has come out to see us.

"We are all desperately hoping that improvements will be made because this is the one issue that residents contact me about more than any other."
