Help us stop flouting of the fouling laws

MORE dog waste bins have been called for to deal with the increasing problem of dog fouling on Winsford's streets.

Grange Residents' Association will now step up its campaign to get more bins installed to ensure the estate remains a healthy place to live.

Association chairman Mike Kennedy believes the problem of dog mess would be solved through more bins and greater owner responsibility.

He said: "A lot of dog owners like myself act responsibly and use the waste bins provided.

"However, judging by the increasing amount of dog waste there are quite a lot of dog owners who are still flouting the law by not picking up their dog's waste.

"Having to pick your way along a pavement covered in droppings is obviously distasteful and, quite naturally, many people fear their children will come home with their shoes or hands daubed in dog faeces.

"When this happens there is the potential of a serious health risk.

"Toxocara canis has caused blindness in children where their fingers have come into contact with dog faeces and they have rubbed or touched their eyes."

Mr Kennedy is now asking Vale Royal Borough Council to help stamp out the dog fouling problem.

He said: "We would request a serious campaign be launched to raise awareness on this severe environmental hazard and for patrols to be stepped up in the area so that those flouting the law may be fined."

Poop scoops and bags are available free of charge from council offices at Wyvern House.
