Lady drivers burn some rubber and raise £44,000

MORE than 400 Warrington women got behind the wheels of vehicles ranging from fire engines to tractors, to raise stacks of money in the process.

The Warrington Ladies Driving Challenge, held to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care, scooped more than £44,000, surpassing the £35,000, set in 2002. The Shell test track, near the M56/M6 junction, was used to let the women burn some serious rubber.

According to Stephen Tongue, the charity's fundraising manager, said: "The sheer scale of the site lent itself to us having lots of large vehicles and a lot of people taking part.

"The venue is so large that participants had to be taken by bus to each section!"
