Crossing where mum died closes

SAFETY inspectors have blocked off the unmarked level crossing where a Middlewich mum was killed while on holiday in Germany.

Katy Lee, 35, died in December when the car she and her husband Nic and two daughters Harriet and Bridget were travelling in was struck by a train at the Bavarian crossing.

After the accident Nic, of Warmingham Lane, said he had no plans to demand an investigation into the safety of the crossing.

But he has since been notified that German authorities have blocked off the road because there were two other accidents at the same spot, one of which resulted in the front of a car being clipped by an oncoming train and the second being described a 'a near miss'.

Nic says he received the news from friends he and Katy had met in Garmisch and that the correspondence has put his mind to rest.

He said: "Although I was 99.9 per cent sure that the accident was not an error in my driving, in that I did not see the crossing, the thought had crossed my mind constantly and kept me awake at night."
