Unusual match ends in draw for Park

WINNINGTON Park began 2005 in fine style with a 3-3 home draw against league leaders Oxton.

And those watching had difficulty in deciding which team were top as Park's bustling play looked to establish a new order.

And much of the good work came from Paul and John Stackhouse and man of the match Danny Moores.

But it was Rob Booth who opened the scoring when he deflected a John Stackhouse pass into the Oxton goal.

Oxton, although a little surprised, soon regained their composure and equalised through a penalty corner.

With Moores niggling at the Oxton midfield it wasn't long before Park had ball they could use on the offensive.

Yet again it was Danny Moores who capitalised on this, scoring from a well-worked move.

Again though the lead was shortlived as Oxton intercepted a Park break and fired a shot at the goal. The attempt was saved by John Paul Dodd, but was guided into the net on the rebound.

Oxton took the lead in the second half but this paled into insignificance when Park keeper Dodd was sin binned.

Captain Kueres took position between the sticks and wore just a helmet as extra protection.

Fortunately he survived and kept a clean sheet for the duration of the suspension, but was relieved when Dodd resumed his responsibilities.

This inspired Park to get an equaliser through Moores and for the final 10 minutes of the game they laid siege to the Oxton goal but couldn't find a way through.
