A class of their own

THE schools' watchdog has followed in the footsteps of the Queen by awarding its own New Year's honours.

And a total of 13 Warrington schools have been included in the list.

Topping Warrington's list is Sandy Lane Nursery School, which has featured in the chief inspector's report twice since the start of Ofsted inspections.

Sheila Yates, head teacher at Birchwood Community High School, said: "We are delighted to be named in the Ofsted list of outstanding schools. This is a very pleasing accolade for our whole community.

"We were originally highlighted as a particularly successful school following an inspection and since then we believe our school has improved still further."
