WEAVERHAM Rangers Wolves showed tremendous spirit despite losing 20-10 at home to Salford-based Langworthy Reds.
With an horrendous injury list still affecting team selection, Wolves did well to send a team onto the field.
And they tackled superbly in the opening 15 minutes with Langworthy's only points coming from a penalty from their stand off.
Such was Wolves' desire that they even managed to forge a lead before the break thanks to Paul Reid.
Mike Pickering and Russ Clarke gave Steve Lowe and Mark Bebbington the chance to push Langworthy deep into their own half and Reid was on hand to crash over.
Lowe goaled to make it 6-2.
The try seemed to spur Langworthy on though and they began to find their feet with their ex-Great Britain international hooker controlling the game.
The pressure eventually told and Langworthy scored just before the break to put them back in front.
After the break Weaverham came out fired up and put Langworthy under tremendous pressure, only for the final pass to go astray time and again.
To make matters worse they allowed a silly try against the run of play.
This did not signal the rout the visitors might have imagined and Simon Clarke was harshly adjudged to have offloaded after being held with Mike Pickering certain to score.
It was only a matter of time though before Wolves scored again and Jimmy Davies showed his power as he carried four defenders over the line to put Wolves back into the game.
In the end the experience of the Langworthy side told and they scored a try after kicking a penalty goal to give them the victory.
l WOLVES have now restructured their coaching staff after Chris Furness, an ex Wigan professional, agreed to join and Lee Butler accepted the position of team manager.
The club will now look at working towards fielding a number of sides next season.
This will enable newcomers to experience rugby league at a comfortable level before progressing.
Weaverham will start a recruitment drive in the coming weeks.
Any budding amateur rugby league players are welcome to attend training on Thursdays at Winnington Park RUFC at 7pm.
