Get fit by volunteering at cemetery

IF getting fit is your New Year's resolution, a few hours a week keeping Burtonwood's cemetery tidy may be just the ticket.

Volunteers are needed throughout the year to help maintain the land, although heavy work is carried out by young offenders from Thorn Cross.

Volunteer and parish councillor John Higham said: "A lot of people find they are bored after they've retired from work and its good to get involved with a group and to meet new people.

"Volunteering at the cemetery also gives you a bit of exercise, which can be handy if you are recovering from illness.

"Even if its only 10 minutes, it can make you feel on top of the world."
