Council to blame for growing list of claims

WITH reference to the recent article on the state of the paving in Witton Street, Northwich, the compensation claims referred to by the council spokesman are not a manifestation of the compensation culture but of the unsatisfactory state of the work accepted by the council.

This invites claims both serious and spurious from the public, who unfortunately are exposed to the hazards by untutored personnel.

The problem in Witton Street has been created by the council following the employment of unskilled labour, not working to a correct specification and inadequately supervised.

This resulted in loose paving stones and tripping hazards before the contract was fully completed.

This situation is further aggravated by the unsatisfactory attempts at remedial work, exemplified by the sight on December 9, of two crew making pitiful attempts to re-bed individual paving stones.

Perhaps the council should take a trip in Witton Street and observe the state of the pavement close up.
