A TSUNAMI disaster fund has been set up by the mayor in a bid to offer support for people affected by the tragedy.
Clr Don Beckett believes the people of Winsford will rally together to raise money to aid the relief effort in affected areas.
He said: "I'm sure there will be a lot of people who will want to help so I have set up this fund to give them the opportunity to do that."
Clr Beckett has set a target of £5,000 and is hopeful it can be achieved.
He said: "The people of Winsford are very generous and I am confident we can raise that amount of money.
"When we have had appeals in the past they have always been fantastic and I have no reason to think this appeal should be any different.
"The disaster happened in another part of the world but it has affected the lives of some people in this area so I think that has made the tragedy more personal.
"I have made a donation of £100 and will ask the other town councillors to make a donation that is affordable to them."
There will be a number of events taking place between now and April, including two concerts by Woodford Brass Band at the civic hall on February 26 and March 1.
