Father's concern after lucky gunshot escape

THE daughter of a Winsford councillor had a lucky escape when someone fired a gun through her living room window.

Peter Gannon, who is also a Winsford town councillor, has condemned the incident last week and is disappointed at the response the family received from the police.

His daughter Jacqueline, 37, who lives on Nixon Drive, was not injured in the incident but her father believes it could have been a lot worse.

He said: "This could have been an extremely serious incident.

"If it had hit someone in the eye then they could have lost their sight.

"My granddaughter may have been hurt by it as well and I'm just extremely grateful no members of my family were injured.

"If we are getting people firing air rifles into homes then we need to sort it out now because the natural progression may be serious gun crime like there is in inner city areas."

Clr Gannon added: "It has been put in the hands of the police so hopefully something can be done about it.

"The people responsible for this kind of behaviour need to be dealt with by the courts and make the area in which we live a safer place."

A police spokesman said: "Unless we had a massive spate of them we wouldn't investigate it.

"It is something the Community Action Team would be made aware of but not something we would send a patrol out to straight away."
