Police arrest 111 drink drivers

MORE than 100 motorists from the Congleton and Vale Royal area face a driving ban.

A total of 111 drivers were arrested in the area between November and January 2 during a police drink drive campaign.

The drivers had provided a positive breath test after being stopped by police.

Some 40 of that total were arrested over the Christmas and New Year period, a huge increase over last year's figure of 24 for the same period.

Almost a quarter of the drivers caught out between December 18 to January 2 had been involved in collisions.

"The results are good because we've taken these drivers who pose a risk to themselves and others off the road," said Sgt Peter Hough.

"However it's disappointing to see that the message about drink-driving isn't getting through to everyone.

"The recent campaign shows that a minority of motorists are ignoring these warnings."
