Warrington Wolves work in unison with union chiefs

UNION bosses say plans to use Warrington Wolves' home as an adult learning centre will bring real benefits to the community.

With a fully equipped TUC Learning Centre and construction skills learning centre set to open later this year, union chiefs have welcomed the project.

Keith Pemberton, regional development worker with TUC learning services north west, said: "On the face of it, a rugby stadium is a slightly unusual venue for learning facilities but when you consider the pulling power of this club and the needs of its playing staff, this all makes perfect sense.

"We are only too happy to lend our backing. You could call it Super League working with union."

The learning centres will not only be open for members of the public, but will also give players a chance to learn extra skills for when they retire from the game.

Tony Campbell, regional officer for the GMB, said his union's involvement in the sport ran deep.

He added: "These bold developments will bring real, tangible benefits to our members by providing opportunities to gain workplace skills that can be used after retiring from the game."
