THE site of a former housing estate, demolished after a massive asbestos scare, could be renamed as part of its transition into a new era.
Building work is already under way on the site of the former Anson Close and Blenheim Close but a question mark hangs over the name of the new homes.
The 261 homes were condemned in January 2002 after it was found that wall panels contained both white and brown asbestos fibres.
Now Poulton with Fearnhead parish councillor Geoff Settle, vice chairman of governors at the neighbouring Brook Acre Primary School, has suggested renaming the new homes.
He has submitted a number of suggestions, which include Hudson Close or Hudson Way, in memory of the late Brook Acre parish ward councillor David Hudson.
Clr Settle said: "We need to pay tribute to David in some way and this seemed highly appropriate. Not only did he champion educational issues but also those of the community. He was a parish ward councillor for the area and cared about the people who lived there.
"However, a Hudson Close does already exists in Burtonwood."
Both Anson and Blenheim and surrounding streets were built on the site of the Padgate Royal Air Force transition camp and are named after Second World War bombers.
While it has been suggested that this nod to the town's war history be retained, Mr Settle believes it is now time to move on.
He added: "We are looking forward to something and I think renaming would be appropriate.
"The past is still being well preserved as there are plenty of bomber names remaining and there is also the museum at Burtonwood Air Base.
"I think it is time to move on from the bombers."
