Decision is looming over town house development

PLANS for 43 town houses and apartments in Nantwich will be decided by planning chiefs on Tuesday.

The application is the third phase of Linden Home's overall development of land at London Road and includes 10 affordable houses for residents with low incomes.

The new site, which will be accessed from London Road via the existing spine road that serves the Mansion Gardens development, is expected to be passed by the borough council's development control committee.

The two-and-a-half storey properties have corner-turning building designs and courtyards.

After consulting with social landlord Dane Housing Association, it has been agreed that four houses and six flats, equating to 23 per cent of the development, will be 'affordable'.

Three units will be available for rent and the remainder will be retained in shared ownership.

However, a dispute between Linden Homes and Barratt Coaches, has led to some controversy regarding the application.

The coach company argues Linden Homes' plan encroaches on its land and includes the partial demolition of its repair garage, a claim refuted by the property developer.

It has led to Barratt Coaches applying for a new replacement garage to be built, but planning chiefs have been recommended to refuse it because of objections raised by the Highway Authority.

A council spokesman said: "The Highway Authority has stated that it is not possible for a coach to turn within the curtilage and exit the proposed compound in a forward gear on to London Road.

"For this reason the Highway Authority will not support this application as it raises safety concerns with the site access and London Road.

"The provision of a new building and facilities for the servicing and maintenance of coaches from a small part of the original depot will be detrimental to highway safety and the amenities of nearby residential properties."
