If, as Cllr Kent says, he respects the war memorial, why in heaven's name, does he want it moving? Does the council have a hatred of the memorial?

In your paper of 16.12.04, Clive Shore suggested that the Municipal Square would be more peaceful. He quotes his service, as giving him the right to make that suggestion.

I had a friend who served 26 years with the Welsh Guards, who never attended the official Remembrance Day parade, preferring to lay his wreath in the peace of the afternoon.

He served with the Guards Armoured Division (The Ever Open Eye) during WWII.

Up to December 6, 2004 Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council has spent £23,000 in total cost, including staff time, plus an estimate of a current commitment of a further £80,000 to Gillespies.

I take this last statement from a letter, sent from the council to a constituent via Mrs Dunwoody.

Despite having passed on the housing stock to Wulvern there has been no reduction in Borough Council charges, in fact they have actually increased, as they undoubtedly will in 2005.
