A DEVELOPER aiming to build houses in Weaverham has called for Vale Royal Borough Council to change its planning policy and give local companies a chance.
Ruth Elliott-Smith, from Cuddington-based company Anaconda Investments, has resubmitted plans to build eight houses and six flats at the junction of Northwich Road and Wallerscote Road.
The borough council rejected the proposal last year on the grounds that it would constitute a 'windfall' development - a development on land not allocated for housing in the Local Plan.
But Ms Elliott-Smith said she had resubmitted the plans following the rejection of the Winnington Urban Village scheme.
She said: "The reason John Prescott refused to give the urban village the go-ahead is because it would stop windfall developments taking place in other parts of the borough.
"The builders involved in the urban village are from big national companies. They would add nothing to the local economy.
"All our people are employed locally and our materials are sourced locally."
Residents living near the proposed development have objected to the plans because they feel it would make the area more dangerous, with a new junction needing to be put in place for access to the properties.
