Our children are at risk after bus cut decision

They had been provided with a free service to avoid risks caused by crossing the busy A556.

But it has been cut now the new route, which a council spokeswoman says meets with safety requirements, has been prepared.

Parents and Moulton Parish Council are worried that the route, which includes a shared cycle and pedestrian lane alongside the bypass, an underpass and a crossing point by the Davenham roundabout, is not safe enough.

Concerned parent David Tunstall, of The Hollies, has two daughters aged 15 and 11 who will be affected by the cut.

He said: "If children are with friends or running late, they're not going to follow the route but will run across the bypass.

"Barriers should be put up to stop this and that's what's been ignored.

"I've no axe to grind against the council, it's just that a child will get killed."

Steve Gurr, of Verdin Close, also has two children attending the school and is concerned that parents' views have been ignored.

He said: "Parents have written to the council and nothing has happened.

"The council should go down to the morgue when the first child comes in - it's the only time they'll do anything.

"I really want to implore all parents as to whether children are responsible enough to run this route and to think deeply into what's the best way forward."

Mark Green, chairman of Moulton Parish Council, said: "We will continue to campaign against it as evidence we have seen to support the safety of the route makes us even more concerned."
