STRETTON WI

THIS year's Christmas party, a most enjoyable event, began with a welcome to everyone from Jill Holman, the president, who went on to give news of members unable to attend because of ill health and to welcome back those who had recovered from illness.

She thanked the members who had given up their time to help with arranging the hall, which was beautifully decorated, giving the most festive atmosphere and thanked, in particular, Josie Murgatroyd and the craft group, who had produced some delightful table arrangements.

After Dorothy Elliott had said grace, the evening began with an enjoyable buffet, prepared by Jim Bevan, after which the committee members for 2005 were introduced and information was given on recent events, including the carol services at Chester Cathedral, and the group Christmas meeting and next year's lunch to be held in January.

After thanking the caretaker and the young ladies doing the washing up after the buffet, the president announced the annual winners of the monthly competition.

These were 1, Barbara Riggans, 2, Jill Holman, 3, Pat Smith and Barbara Broomfield.

The drama group then treated the audience to a performance of a play Six Maids a Mopping in the form of a rather hysterical dress rehearsal, which was introduced in delightful form, by the producer, Denise Morgan, and was thoroughly enjoyed.

The evening ended with carols, accompanied at the piano by Barbara Broomfield and followed by Auld Lang Syne.
