Scouts lighten the load for supermarket shoppers

WARRINGTON Scouts lightened the load for Christmas shoppers this week, busily packing bags at Asda Westbrook.

They beavered away on Tuesday night and all day today, Thursday, helping last-minute buyers stocking up for the festivities while raising money for their international camp next summer.

Both Warrington East and West contingencies of the Explorer Scouts, aged 14 to 18, took part in the bag pack, which the leader for the Cheshire contingent, Helen Syms, hopes will raise more than last year's total of £1,300.

All the money raised will pay for the Scouts to attend Eurojam2005, the largest international educational event for young people to take place in the UK for more than 50 years.

Helen said: "The event promotes the Scout values of peace and understanding and gives the opportunity for the Scouts to learn about different cultures."

Each Scout needs £500 for their camp fee, which includes a contribution to subsidise prices for Scouts from poorer countries.
