Good soul's pledge to do more

A great-grandmother who has raised more than £20,000 for a centre that cares for cancer patients wants to do more to help.

Teresa Sanderson, 77, said she had no plans to stop raising cash for the East Cheshire Hospice - despite being kept busy looking after her 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

"I know I'm getting older but it is just not me to stop doing something," she said.

"I wouldn't know what to do with myself as it has taken up so much of my time."

Mrs Sanderson has been raising money for the Macclesfield-based centre for almost 20 years.

But she has never visited it.

"All I want to do is to hand the money over," she said.

Every year she appeals to residents to donate unused gifts, which she sells in Booths supermarket.

This year's sales raised almost £3,000.

Her husband George, 80, who works in Booths, helps to organise the events.

But Mrs Sanderson, who lives in Racefield Road, is already preparing to raise thousands next year.

"I've already got some presents for then and am happy to collect them all year round," she said. "I like nothing more on a miserable day than sitting in my dining room wrapping presents for hours."

Gifts can be left at the Knutsford Guardian office in Toft Road.
