Donation made in memory of late teacher

AS A tribute to an outstanding member of the community, Poulton with Fearnhead Parish Council has donated £1,000 to St Joseph's Family Centre in memory of the late Dave Hudson.

Parish councillors voted that the donation should be made as their former colleague had worked tirelessly as a volunteer for the charity.

Although best known for his dedication to improving educational prospects for children in the town and as a community spokesman, Mr Hudson was less vocal about the extent of his charity work.

The former head teacher of Longbarn Primary School and Woolston Community Primary School served as a parish councillor for the area for 15 years and in that time championed the welfare of residents living in the parish.

Despite suffering years of ill health, he continued to attend meetings while still dedicating himself to the job he loved - as head teacher of Woolston Primary - up until his retirement earlier this year.

He was renowned throughout the town for his passion for learning and his commitment to improving opportunities for the children in his care, inspiring many who knew him.

Sister Mary Whelan, director of St Joseph's Family Centre, said: "David was a great supporter of the centre and has been involved in valuable work as a volunteer.

"We are all greatly saddened by his death and he is certainly much missed by everyone here.

"It is a wonderful gesture by his family and friends to contribute to the centre in David's memory and we are truly grateful."
