THE former chairman of a youth club in Middlewich said she resigned from her position because of internal difficulties between the committee.
As reported in last week's Guardian, the youth club at the Wych Centre on Civic Way was closed for a week and chairman Claire Newbigging resigned following problems with the seven to 11s group.
The resignation came after concerns were raised about intimidating behaviour among youngsters, which came to a head on Tuesday, December 7.
But Claire is concerned that the youngsters at the club will feel abandoned because of her resignation and stressed she had not submitted her notice directly because of them.
She said: "The reason I resigned was because of problems within the committee. I don't want the children to think I've left because of them.
"I still intend to go back and continue working with them as a volunteer but it probably won't be until March."
Claire added: "I feel sad that I stepped down but I'm not going to give up on the kids."
Last week committee member Simon McGrory told the Guardian that three youth workers had been recruited to start working with the different age groups from the New Year.
He said the youth workers had discussed several new approaches to running the club and hoped they would be able to revamp its image.
