Crewe CC have new skipper for 2005

CREWE Cricket Club will be under new captaincy when they launch their NSSC Division One campaign, next year.

With Richard Marsh's decision to stand down after four years at the helm, Matt Dawson will lead the first team out on the field in April.

Dawson, 24, will become one of the club's youngest ever skippers and he is likely to be targeting a promotion bid for the new season.

He's Crewe through and through.

A club spokesperson said: "He came up through the junior ranks making his first team bow at the age of 16.

"Matt was a member of the 2000 championship winning team before leaving the area and spending two seasons with Bollington in the Cheshire County League.

"He returned last season and took 33 wickets and scored over 300 runs."

Nick Lange will take the vice captain's spot after another good season, taking 62 wickets and scoring over 400 runs, just short of Tom Gower's 500 plus, making him Crewe's leading amateur batsman.

Pakistani professional Aamir Iqbal topped with 783 runs but is unlikely to return for 2005 meaning the club are on the look out for his replacement.

"The committee would like to thank Richard for his work both on and off the pitch and wish him well in his new role of club secretary," added the spokesperson.

The new second team captain will be Rob Highfield with Chris Lange named as his number two.
