McClarney magic inspires Moore

Moore RUFC 23

Marple RUFC 13

MOORE avenged their recent defeat to Marple with a quality comeback win.

They trailed 10-0 early doors after seemingly leaving their aggression in the changing room.

But Moore reacted in a positive manner. McClarney put in a sensational performance in the pack and the result moved Moore away from the relegation battle in Rugby Football Union South Lancashire/Cheshire Three.

McClarney's hard work was complimented by direct running from the backs.

That led to Moore being camped on Marple's line and Jeff Wilson knocked over a penalty to reduce their arrears to 10-3.

From the kick-off, Moore pressurised Marple's line once again and several penalties in a row led to McLarney touching down from Potter's quick tap penalty.

Wilson duly converted and he added a touchline penalty to further reward Moore's domination.

Marple were in disarray and Moore skipper Potter took advantage by dummying their defence and going over the whitewash.

Wilson's superb touchline conversion gave Moore a 20-13 half-time lead.

The second half was played at a slower pace and Moore brought on three substitutes in the pack to add fresh legs in Woollacott, Gilby and Owen.

But Marple gained the upper hand with 20 minutes left to play.

They were camped in Moore's half of the pitch but Wilson hit his fifth goal from five attempts to put the game out of Marple's reach.
