Dam end doubles at Tabley Moat

LYMM Angling Club's fishing scene has been quiet this week.

The reports I have received indicate that there are still plenty of fish to be caught for those taking a break from seasonal preparations.

On still waters, roach and perch have been producing the most consistent action closely followed by skimmers and rudd.

Carp action has slowed but they have continued to feed through the cold weather albeit, as you would expect, at a much reduced rate.

This makes sessions worthwhile although loose offerings have to be reduced significantly and added accurately to the water.

Specialists add small amounts of loose offerings using PVA bags fixed to their rigs and therefore cast them in along with hook bait. This method guarantees that the loose offerings lie in close proximity to the hook bait, which is important at this time of year.

While writing this article I have listened to a weather forecast which warned of snow creating slippery road conditions.

As fishing is a sport which takes us to some pretty remote locations it is particularly important to undertake vehicle checks. Have your battery, tyres, windscreen wipers, antifreeze etc checked and make sure that you have enough fuel and that your mobile phone is charged up.

Also take spare clothing, a good torch, hot drinks and some food just in case.

Pike anglers have been enjoying reasonable action although nothing big has been reported this week.

However, Tabley Moat has been producing the odd double, mainly from the dam end.

Spinning seems to be the favoured method at the moment although this might be more to do with the anglers preferring this mobile way of fishing to keep warm than its productivity in catching fish.
