This parking chaos will lead to an accident

PARKING chaos around Oughtrington Primary School in Lymm is an accident waiting to happen according to concerned parents.

Lymm Parish Council was told last Tuesday that speeding drivers and problem parkers in the Howard Avenue and Bucklow Gardens area would cause an accident unless the problems are tackled.

Ann Hunt, who has a child at the school, said despite numerous letters sent home to parents and attempts to manage the traffic better - the problem remained.

She added: "One of the problems is people speeding, particularly at 8.50am when they are late.

"We are concerned about residents and children because we feel is it an accident waiting to happen.

"It is a small minority of people who carry on doing things we ask them not to do."

Parents and staff have set up a group to come up with solutions, speaking to police as well. The problems included parents parking on the pavements and exceeding 30mph near to the school.

The meeting also heard that many of the parents who drop their children off, live within walking distance of the school.

Lymm's new community support office Daren Dennis said police had been to the school to analyse the situation.

He added: "We have spoken about walking buses and mentioned the health advantages of walking, but it is convenient for people to take their cars.

"In the new year we hope to come up with a solution."

Clr Sheila Woodyatt said she would lobby the borough council to have a 20mph speed limit introduced in the area - similar to that currently in use outside Cherry Tree Primary School on Hardy Road.
