NEWCHURCH WI

NEWCHURCH WI held its Christmas party in Newchurch Parish Hall, Culcheth, on December 8. A truly festive sight greeted the partygoers - gold cloths on the tables and a splendidly decorated hall, courtesy of the Craft group.

Mrs Sylvia Brown, the president, greeted members and visitors from Culcheth WI, there was a special welcome for Mrs Freda Wilcock who had been a great help at the very successful carol service on December 1.

Business was kept to a minimum. Mrs O Lee received the prize for the most competition points in 2004, Mrs W Worthington won the Margaret Dowson Bowls Cup, while Mrs J Greig was runner-up. The monthly walk would be on December 30.

The choir sang while sherry and orange juice were served. Those present then settled down to an excellent meal, provided by Culcheth Caterers. A free raffle was drawn and a gift distributed to each person.

The audience were then entertained to a programme of traditional songs, many of which those present could join in, by Jack Hunt on guitar and his wife Joan on piano accordian.

A most enjoyable evening was had by all. Mrs P Poulter thanked the craft group for yet another wonderful and imaginative display.

The next meeting will be at 7.30pm on Wednesday January 12 2005 in Newchurch Parish Hall, with a talk on The Humour of Police Work. All are welcome. Further information from Mrs J Riley on 762722.
