A FUN filled weekend has been held for children with diabetes.
It gave youngsters aged under 11 and their parents a chance to relax, make new friends and realise they can still live an active life.
Record breaking long distance swimmer Mark Blewitt gave an inspirational talk.
A fun fruits and silly sandwiches session showed them there are lots of tasty and colourful ways to eat sensibly.
Halton diabetes UK voluntary group donated £1,000 to help fund a similar weekend next year for Widnes & St Helens children's diabetic group.
"It's a great example of two local voluntary groups working in partnership," said Barbara Beesley of Halton's adult diabetes group.
A donation from the ladies section of Widnes Golf Club has helped to pay for a noticeboard on the main corridor of Halton Hospital.
A portable display board has also been purchased for outdoor events.
"It is important not to be afraid to admit to having diabetes," said Barbara. "They should talk to their families, friends and carers and come to our meetings where they can find out new things and learn how to manage their diabetes."
The adult group meets on the third Wednesday of the month, alternating between Widnes and Runcorn. Call Barbara Beesley on 0151-424 9432 for information.
The children's group meets on the first Tuesday of the month in St Helens. Call Lynn Day on 0151-424 5357 for more details.
