Special trip for Mandy

A NORTHWICH Special Constable who took part in the New York 9/11 memorial ceremony was so touched by the reception she got from the city that she's taking another bite at the Big Apple.

Next month, mum-of-three Mandy Jones, who juggles being a mum with her role as a Special and a full time admin clerk at the town police station, will cross the pond for a second time after losing her heart to the city back in September.

Frodsham resident Mandy said: "There were lots of atrocities in New York for fire officers, police officials and civilians to deal with on September 11. When I saw an appeal for British police officials to form a guard of honour for the 9/11 memorial I thought it would be nice to go and pay my respects."

Mandy was one of 380 police officers and Specials from all over the UK who took part in the memorial ceremony and one of the 67 chosen from the crowd to go to the memorial garden in Hanover Square.

She said: "The whole experience was just out of this world."
