Taking control

RADICAL plans to shake up Cheshire's crimebusting system have gained the green light from police authority officials.

Their decision in favour of advancing Ch Con Peter Fahy's vision for the future of the force under the Taking Control initiative means mid Cheshire is a step closer to having more officers visible on the streets, in close contact with local people and working to provide long term solutions to crime and disorder problems.

The new look proposals have been brought about after it was revealed that confidence in policing in the area is not as high as it should be - despite falling crime figures.

Instead of the present six divisions, the force will have 18 neighbourhood policing units, which will concentrate on preventing and detecting local crime and targeting offenders, building contacts in the community, resolving problems by working with organisations and individuals and providing officers who are visible and accessible.
