Don't get food poisoning this Christmas

WARRINGTON Trading Standards is urging people to avoid food poisoning this Christmas by following a few simple guidelines.

Some of the top tips for surviving Christmas include making sure frozen turkeys and poultry have been thoroughly thawed in a cool room, and making sure there are no ice crystals left in the body cavity.

As for cooking, people are advised to cook at a high temperature for the first 30 minutes, and to test that cooking is complete by inserting a skewer into a turkey thigh to check whether juices run clear.

Any meat remaining should be cooled quickly, placed in the fridge, and used within three days.

For more tips on a yule without food poisoning, check out the trading standards information leaflet. For a copy of the leaflet, or for further information, call 442577. Warrington trading standards can be reached at 442678.
