Dancer Siobhan steps up to international class

A FLEET-footed Wistaston schoolgirl has danced her way into an international competition to find the World Irish Dance Champion.

Siobhan Webb, aged 11, of Westfield Drive, has just qualified to represent the north west at the annual championships to be held in Ireland in March.

A pupil at St Thomas More High School, Siobhan secured a place in the competition after grabbing sixth place in the region's qualifiers which were held at Manchester University.

Her mum Sheila said Siobhan had trained really hard for the event and was delighted that her determination has paid off.

Siobhan, who achieved a distinction in her tap and jazz exams earlier this year, is a pupil at the Lally Irish Dance School in Manchester and travels there two or three times a week to train.

She has also appeared on stage at the Regent Theatre in Hanley in the venue's productions Whistle Down the Wind and Joseph.

She is now working hard in the smash hit musical Jesus Christ Superstar.

Together with her younger sister Shannon, who has also gained top marks in ballet, tap and jazz, Siobhan has successfully auditioned for the role of the orphan in the stage show Annie next year.
