THE new year will bring roadworks to the busy Wilderspool Causeway.
But road chiefs say that any resurfacing work will be done overnight.
Bridge repairs, road and public footpath improvements are scheduled to begin on Monday, January 10, as part of a scheme to improve safety on the road between the former Brian Bevan roundabout and its junction with Bridge Foot roundabout.
The work is due to last around 12 weeks.
Resurfacing will be carried out between 8pm and 6am every Monday to Friday, with a contraflow in operation, and the bridgeworks will take place between 8pm on Saturdays and 6am on Mondays, when road closures will come into force.
The diversion will take motorists along London Road, Grappenhall Road, Chester Road, Knutsford Road, Higher Knutsford Road, Thelwall Lane, Kingsway South, Kingsway North, Manchester Road, Church Street and Mersey Street.
Work to footpaths will not have any effect on the flow of traffic, and one will remain open at all times.
John Drake, capital team leader, said: "We appreciate that, although this is only a small stretch of road, it can be very busy at peak times and we have done our best to ensure that any impact caused by these works is limited as much as possible.
"However, we apologise in advance for any disruption that may be caused."
