This is Music, The Singles 92-98, The Verve

MUSIC doesn't get much better than this. If you're somewhat of a morose character who likes to wallow in a bit of self pity while sitting on your own in a darkened room with a shotgun (ok, maybe not the shotgun) then I'm sure you're already a huge fan of Wigan based trio The Verve.

Urban Hymns put them on the commercial map, but this moving collection, which also includes tracks from the band's previous two albums A Storm in Heaven and A Northern Soul, deserves a place in anyone's record collection.

Stand out tracks are plenty including the anthemic Bitter Sweet Symphony and Drugs Don't Work along with the fantastic On Your Own which really does make you question why we're all here.

This collection only serves to underline Richard Ashcroft's genius in the songwriting stakes, before he moved on to solo success with Human Conditions and Alone With Everybody. 'Like a cat in a bag waiting to drown' is probably my favourite line although Sonnet wins outright as best song.

There's also the bonus of two new tracks with the previously unreleased Monte Carlo and This Could Be My Moment.

I just never get bored with The Verve, Depressed, lonely, reaching for a bottle, suicidal, maybe, but bored? Never!
