IT'S still too many - that's the message from police who have arrested 41 motorists in Crewe and Nantwich for drink-driving so far this Christmas period.
Around 370 breath tests have been carried out as part of a crackdown by police in the run-up to Christmas, which statistics prove is a notorious time of year for drink-driving.
In November, 230 tests returned 32 positive samples and the latest figures for December show nine positive results from a further 140 tests.
Officers are now urging residents not to take a chance over the festive period and to leave their cars at home if they are going out drinking.
Road traffic sergeant Martyn Campbell said: "One positive test is too many and we would urge people to think twice before getting behind the wheel if they have had a drink.
"It still appears that people are only too willing to run the risk of driving under the influence, which can have devastating consequences.
"We are holding a mock accident in Crewe town square tomorrow, (Friday), showing two vehicles with accident damage and fire crews cutting people free.
"The aim is to say to people 'if you are going out tonight or over the Christmas period, make sure the fire brigade doesn't have to cut you out of a wreck'.
"There are more cases of drink driving at Christmas because it's a time of year when there are a lot of parties and people tend to drink more, so there's a distinct upsurge.
"Once again we ask residents to think twice and not to do it."
l The police's accident mock-up will take place at 11am and again at 2.30pm tomorrow, Friday.
