Action taken to make estate a brighter place

RESIDENTS who have lived in fear of anti-social behaviour on the Over estate have been given peace of mind following improved security.

Weaver Vale Housing Trust has made a £15,000 investment to install bulkhead lighting on the side of properties.

Work has already been carried out on 30 houses and the initiative is seen as a major success for Over Residents' Association.

Alan Bailey, association chairman, said: "It is great news for people living in this area.

"Many residents have complained that lighting is poor on the estate and that this encourages vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

"We therefore approached Weaver Vale Housing Trust to try to find a solution."

Alan believes the improvements will benefit many people on the estate.

He said: "Anti-social behaviour affects a lot of people but especially the older people.

"It can be very intimidating for them if there are youths outside in the dark.

"Hopefully with more light they will feel a lot safer.

"It will also make it a lot harder for the kids to commit acts of vandalism without someone seeing them."

The residents' association is now looking forward to working with Weaver Vale Housing Trust to further improve security on the estate.

Ray Terschowetz, building services manager at Weaver Vale Housing Trust, said: "By working closely with tenants and the residents' group we were happy to be able to assist with the project which enhances the safety and security of Weaver Vale Housing Trust residents."
