Objectors want to block wind farm

OBJECTIONS have been made against plans to site a wind farm development on the Cheshire Plain that many believe would be a blot on the landscape.

If the proposals are given the go ahead it would be the first wind farm development in the county, which people fear would open the floodgates.

A planning application has already been submitted to erect a meteorological mast to measure wind speed at Oxleys Farm in Rushton.

Tarporley Parish Council is strongly opposed to the possibility of the wind farm development.

Parish clerk John Macdonald said: "The council does not believe there are strong enough environmental reasons to justify this development.

"Councillors are not anti-sustainable energy in any way but don't feel the location of the wind farm is acceptable."

The project is being coordinated by Npower Renewables and it is hoped the turbines will provide enough energy to meet the average needs of 1,600 homes.

If tests to measure wind speed return good results a planning application to build three wind turbines at the proposed site will be submitted by the end of the year.
