Lottery winner claims £1.6m payout

A MYSTERY person is now a millionaire after stepping forward to claim a massive National Lottery win.

This year's festive season will certainly be one to remember for the winner - who has chosen to remain anonymous.

The ticket to the £1,666,667 prize was bought in the Vale Royal area and had remained unclaimed since the £10million jackpot-only birthday draw on Saturday, November 6.

Last week, Lottery operators Camelot launched a search to find the mystery ticket holder.

If the prize had remained unclaimed by May 5 next year, the money and any interest generated would have gone to the Lottery's good causes.

National Lottery spokesman Fabian Devlin said: "We can confirm that the winning ticket has now been validated but the winner wishes to remain anonymous.

"We are delighted that the winner of this prize has now come forward and we hope that they will enjoy their win.

"It would have been awful if the ticket holder had missed out on this substantial and life-changing amount of money.

"We would also like to remind all Lotto players to check their tickets every time they play."
