Only Santa should be allowed in

A CHESHIRE policeman is urging people in mid Cheshire to make sure that Father Christmas is the only person to slip into their houses this month.

Peter Kenny, a crime reduction advisor based at Northwich Police Station, said most burglars got into homes though a back door or window when everywhere looked quiet.

He said: "Making sure your home looks like there's someone in, whether you are in or out, will help deter a thief."

Peter said residents should fit deadlocks or rear doors to make if difficult for criminals to leave premises, fit additional key-operated window locks and ensure patio doors had top and bottom locks or bolts added.

He said thieves would also try their luck if something caught their eye.

He said: "A fine example is Christmas presents stored under the Christmas tree. All presents should be hidden away and only put under the tree on Christmas Eve."
