YMCA set to stage 150th

birthday celebrations

YMCA members past and present are urged to get in touch with the Warrington office, as it gears up for 150th birthday celebrations.

Warrington's YMCA started in1855 and took up its current premises in Winmarleigh Street in 1931.

The festivities will start on Saturday, January 8, at 10.30am with the launch of 150 balloons on the Town Hall lawn. Wishes will be attached to the balloons, and each balloon will be entered in a distance race.

A spokesman said: "There are prizes for the winners. Balloons will cost £5 each, and organizations can enter at the cost of £10.

The group also wants to hear from anyone who used its practice rooms and cellars as part of a band. Anyone who has a story to tell will be included in a history bulletin newsletter, filled with all the stories that come in.
