MAYOR of Warrington Clr Ted Lafferty rolled up his sleeves and got stuck in with some charity work at the Golden Square shopping centre when he helped man a book stall for Warrington Hospital's League of Friends.
Bradford and Bingley, which has a branch in the Old Market Place, donated the use of its display area in the shopping centre for the League of Friends' annual second hand book sale.
As well as helping to man the stall, the branch also supported the charity with a donation of £250 as part of the company's programme of supporting local communities.
Patricia Bate, branch manager of Bradford and Bingley, said: "We wanted to support something that really benefited local people. A lot of our customers already support the hospital and the League of Friends' work, so they were delighted when we announced we would be helping to man the book stall and raise funds. When they heard that the Mayor would also be coming, they were even happier."
More than £800 was raised on the day.
