CAMPAIGNERS LOSE GAS PLANT FIGHT

Protesters have lost their fight against ScottishPower's plans to build a £100million gas plant on the outskirts of Middlewich.

A High Court judge today, Thursday, ruled that the power giant could build the site in Byley more than four years after it originally submitted the plans.

Mr Justice Davis said Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott was right to overrule a public inquiry inspector and approve the plant.

The ruling is a huge blow to the concerned residents and members of protest group Residents Against the Plant (RAP) who travelled more 200 miles to attend the trial, which began on Monday.

See next week's Middlewich Guardian for full details of the judgement and reaction from the protesters and ScottishPower.
