Market's given a makeover for Christmas

WORK on a £25,000 facelift for Crewe Market has begun just in time to brighten up the town centre ahead of Christmas.

Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council has installed brand new market stalls on the outdoor market on Lyceum Square.

It is part of a planned £25,000 facelift for the market that has been earmarked to take place throughout the year.

The stalls are of the 'pop-up' or concertina marquee style and come with red and yellow canopies.

The council's business manager Paul Burns said: "The idea is to attract customers into the market by improving the display and outlook of it.

"We will erect the stalls on the outdoor market on Fridays, Saturdays and Monday morning and traders should benefit from a better selling environment.

"We are now working with the traders' committee to provide a lot more attractions on to the market next year- look out for news of live entertainments and events throughout the year."

Local economy chief Steve Hogben said: "People should see from this the council is committed to the future success of the market and is prepared to invest money in improvements."
